We’ve been busy kicking off the year developing and fine tuning an investment cast headbadge design. It’s taken a lot of time, effort and trial and error but we finally have a badge we feel is worthy of adorning our steel frames.

I have been busy making a pair of tube benders, both for 16mm O.D tube, but different radius. The small one has a bend radius of 150mm and the bigger one is 200mm bend radius.

The large former is machined from Maple the smaller roller is machined from nylon.

The former and the roller do a really good job of supporting the tube, producing a smooth bend without deforming the tube.

It doesn’t need explaining really, Its a sort of ‘braze on finger’. its really simple and effective, a joy to use !

The ‘finger’ aplies just enough pressure to hold the item in place for brazing.

I am getting set up to produce the integrated track bars and stems. I have been busy making a few fixtures to set them up quickly and accurately for brazing. It speeds up and simplifies the production a little. The Taiwanese bike factories are bricking it !
A picture of a integrated track bar and stem, With a coat of primer.

This fixture lets me set the bars up for specific head tube angles, so I can accurately set the pitch of the bars. Really fast and convent to set up. This has made a fiddly job simple.

A little stop to make sure everything is spot on in the middle.

Investment cast Bronze Headbadge, first one poured. It still needs some refining. You never know exactly what will happen until you make the pattern, invest it and then pour one. Its a very involved process, but once working produces fantastic results. Going to do a sterling Silver one for special occasions.

You can see the sprue on the back still needs cutting off and fettling

The two holes top and bottom will fit M2 cap heads, to fit up to the headtube.

Been busy working on a new head-badge, ready to make some molds tomorrow.

Dave’s new cross frame, ready for winter. Fillet brazed Columbus Zona. Covered in another immaculate paint job by CROMAWORKS. A top quality job, all paint, no decals were harmed in the production of this paint finish ! The paint is auto air colors pearlized red and pearlized black finished with urethane clear. I will post some pictures of it built up and covered in mud soon.
